The Duchess

Network: HGTV

What’s It All About? This new docu-soap from HGTV follows the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland, and their five young children, as they manage the day-to-day running of their home, historic Belvoir — mispronounced for centuries as “Beaver” — Castle. The duchess, Emma Watkins, and her husband go to great lengths to bring in enough income to keep the lights turned on in the 150,000-square-foot castle. While it seems counterintuitive to imagine a vast aristocratic estate ever suffering from economic downturn or needing a business plan, that’s just the kind of insight the six-part series allows viewers. From roof repairs to new pipes, an old adage rings true: With great size comes great expense. And you thought your utility bill was high!

I do not like this show. It is very boring. Why in the WORLD don’t you bring back the craft shows, like re-runs of Carol Duvall who people LOVE, and Simple Quilts re-runs. And all the old craft shows in the morning. We don’t care that they’re re-runs, we LOVE them, and it would help the economy. Because it gives people something “affordable” to do, and retail sales would go up as it did when they were on before. Why can’t you listen to you viewers. We WANT and LOVE our crafts shows. Please…. can’t you see that. Some of us are shuts in and we SO miss our shows.

I really enjoyed the preview. The Dutchess is an elegant lady, and I am looking forward to seeing more of the family and the “fairy tale”lives in reality.

I adored watching ‘The Duchess’ and hope you will rerun all of the episodes again very soon. Belvoir Castle is too amazing to take in so early in the morning, please give it a time spot in the evening.

    Respectfully,
    Patricia Ray

What a surprise! A new and DIFFERENT show on HGTV. When will this be on again? I caught the last 10 minutes of the last show. I have pretty much had it with the programs you have been putting on lately and I didn’t even know it was going to be on. I would like to see all of the Belvoir Castle shows but not at 6:30 am on the day after a busy holiday.
Will they be on again soon?
    Thanks, Cyndee

HGTV showed all six parts today…

Duchess Emma and Butler Horton were the clear stars of this series. Intelligent, engaging, thoroughly entertaining. The undercurrent, however, the apparent distance, even estrangement between the Duke and his Duchess and children became distracting for me. By the end, I came away wondering if the Duke’s curmudgeonly preoccupation with the insignificant details of the castle and complete avoidance and disinterest in his wife and five children, or the ‘heavy lifting,’ so to speak, workings of managing the castle was actually the result of a devastatingly sad mental breakdown and emotional impairment that coincided with whatever caused his paralysis.

If that is the case, and even if not, the duchess emerges as quite an heroic figure given the lack of emotional support from her husband.

Horton? Unparalleled! There should be a spin-off reality series: The Butler! He was not only insightful and wry, he was laugh-out-loud funny — and sexy! (All in the confidence!)

Saw some of this show today. Excellent.. and provides an interesting insight into exactly what is involved in running a vast estate. It’s not all bon-bons and fun!!! You will like this show if your interest and taste runs to the English, history or the royals. Don’t miss it!

The show was great. Too bad it was at 4:30 am Los Angeles time. When are you going to air it again? Will there be more episodes?

I love the programs “Gardener’s Diary” followed by “Rebecca (Kolls) Garden.” I have my VCR programed to record those two shows . I wasn’t sure from last Friday morning if they were not on or just fouled up my schedules, but when I viewed the tape today , I was saddened to realize my two favorite shows had been removed, but was very impressed and delighted in watching “Duchess of Rutland.” Only to find I had two of SIX episodes . When will the episodes be shown again ??? I need to see all six. Please don’t let this be the only showing … It is good filming .

I just happened to tune in at the very end of the wedding show and was able to record and watch the other four. I wish it had been announced or at least shown later in the day. I hope that the series will be shown again as I’m telling everyone about it and sharing the websites, but they are nothing like seeing the Duchess and her family. Great shows!

I really enjoyed the show. Many don’t realize the work involved in getting ready for the public.

Looking forward to seeing the show again. Missed some of it because of my work.

Delightful up-beat show! The family is multi-dimensional, the castle is exciting to see preparing for the public viewing over the holidays, as they prepare for the masses viewing their day-to day lives.
    I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I was amazed at “the digs” the family shares versus the public side of the castle.
I want to see MORE, and would love an up-close view of the castle myself. The family is dynamic. The Duke is moving into the 21st Century…very slowly… with the expanse of television in his home – this should be a show that is charming, witty, and a great view of a public servant, so to say. Thank you for the opportunity.
