What’s It All About? Any realistic look at the lives of criminal defense attorneys — the unbridled egos that allow them to take another’s future in their hands, their idealism, their drinking, their fractured home lives — requires a touch of comedy, and this drama goes one better by adding a liberal dose of eccentric Las Vegas flavor. Senior lawyer Nick Morelli (Belushi) is trying to mend a fractured marriage while younger partner Pete Kaczmarek (O’Connell) loves fast cars, beautiful women and one-night stands. In the pilot, the two hire a recent law school graduate (Smollett) — who covered her college tuition by working as a stripper — and immediately hand her enough legal rope to hang herself with. Fortunately, she shows her talent, as does everyone involved with this series. One of fall’s best dramas.
