This summer’s season was Masterpiece Mystery, which included classic whodunits by Agatha Christie, as well as works featuring fictional sleuth Kurt Wallander. Masterpiece‘s presentations of Little Dorrit and Wallander have each been nominated for prime-time Emmys.

What To Expect: Masterpiece Mystery continues through October 18 with Kevin Whately returning as Inspector Lewis in new and returning installments of the Inspector Lewis series.

On October 25, Masterpiece Contemporary kicks in, offering a front-row seat for dramas penned by the finest modern writers. New host David Tennant (Doctor Who) introduces three new presentations this fall:

Endgame (October 25) is a real-life political thriller about the negotiations that led to the end of apartheid in South Africa.

Place of Execution, airing November 1 and 8, is based on the novel by Val McDermid, about the 1963 disappearance of a 13-year-old girl. Questions surrounding the case resurface 40 years later when a TV journalist begins to unravel the mystery.

Collision (November 15 and 22) tells the story of a major road accident and the 10 seemingly unconnected people involved.
