My Generation

Network: ABC

Who Is In It? Michael Stahl David, Kelli Garner

What’s It All About? Oh, how life can change — and can change you. The class of 2000 at Greenbelt High School in Austin, Texas, had promise, as the documentary film about a disparate group of its students showed. Now, 10 years later, the film crew is back for an update on the lives of these youngsters with so much potential. Where are they now? In most cases, not where they’d have thought. The presidential hopeful is a full-time surfer/part-time bartender. The scientist ended up on Capitol Hill. The would-be family man is … having trouble in that department. And the jock with the punky girlfriend is overseas in Afghanistan, while she’s at home pregnant with their child.

In the style of ABC’s acclaimed comedy Modern Family, the unseen film crew documents the current lives of these nine people as their lives come together — or in some cases, fall apart. While a genuine drama with its share of fragile and tender scenes, some of its most tragic and profound moments are also its funniest. True, it’s hard to see how the mockumentary-style format is going to hold up in a drama over the long haul, but we’re already curious and itching to find out what the second episode will bring.

***UPDATE 10/4/10: ABC HAS CANCELED “MY GENERATION” AFTER TWO EPISODES DUE TO POOR RATINGS.
