Where We Left Off: Winston was kidnapped, and we learned parts of the backstory explaining how Chance, Winston and Guerrero came to work together.
What to Expect: First order of business is rescuing Winston, whom we’ll go ahead and assume makes it through OK. From there, Chance is talked out of retirement by billionaire philanthropist Ilsa Pucci, played by new series regular Indira Varma. She enlists his help after the murder of her husband. Janet Montgomery also joins the cast as Ames, a beautiful, chameleon-like thief who has ties to Winston. Guest stars are said to include Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica), Molly Parker (Deadwood) and M.C. Gainey (Lost). Having debuted midseason, the show only had 12 episodes to find an audience, and its renewal had been a big question mark. With a full season in store, here’s hoping this quality action series finally connects.
What’s It All About? This thrill ride should make a star out of Mark Valley, whose effortless charm is a perfect counterbalance to the show’s fevered pace. Based on the DC Comic, Human Target stars Valley as Christopher Chance, a bodyguard who provides the highest quality of security to his clientele by working undercover to flesh out would-be threats. He’s a mix of Sherlock Holmes and Jason Bourne, with seemingly endless knowledge to complement his top-notch fighting skills. Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) continues his career resurgence in an especially good turn as Guerrero, a wily computer expert who helps Chance. Smart, unapologetic fun.
