Who Is In It? Harry Hamlin, Lisa Rinna
What’s It All About? Hamlin says the famously odd-coupled, May-December duo originally intended to make a sort of homage to I Love Lucy, using their own “insane” household and lifestyle as fodder — but the show evolved into something more like unscripted-but-embellished reality. “We were talking about whether to even call this a reality show,” says Rinna, “because it’s really more like a romantic comedy. If you look at I Love Lucy with Lucy and Ricky together doing a sitcom, that’s what we’re doing, but in a different genre. It’s our life … but with structure.” The six-episode series — the sixth of which, Rinna hints, contains a major surprise — shows the couple individually and together in her preferred lifestyle (public and people-filled) and his (private and nature-loving) and how the ability to operate in either has made their 13-year union a success. And because the duo produced it with TV Land, a network catering to adults with a hankering for TV the way it used to be, Hamlin says you can forget the usual reality-show antics. “We don’t let cameras into the bathroom; we don’t scream or yell or get drunk and throw plates at each other. It’s a grown-up show.” One, adds Rinna, that may shock critics and cynics. “There are huge misconceptions about me, for sure — and no one really knows who Harry Hamlin is, because he’s very private. A lot of people think they know who we are, but the show will surely shatter all of that!”
