Network: TBS
Who Is In It? Tim Meadows, Kelly Blatz, Callard Harris, Matt Bush, Drew Seeley, Hartley Sawyer, Julianna Guill
What’s It All About? Times may have changed, but the college experience is universal, and that’s what TBS is tapping into for its new comedy Glory Daze, which follows a group of freshmen at a Midwestern university in 1986. Together they navigate life on campus, join a fraternity and learn a lot more than tuition can buy.
The characters in Glory Daze are pulled from any campus: There’s the weird roommate, the reluctant jock, the sex-obsessed guy, the sheltered conservative guy, the Asian guy and the girl from class who you’re totally into but she’s dating that upperclassman from your frat.
There’s even the professor who rails against the military-industrial complex and seems to have a few complexes of his own. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Tim Meadows plays Professor Haines, an intense, emotional teacher harboring a lot of pent-up hostility. But Haines has a lot more going on underneath his rough exterior.
“[Haines] is going through a really rough divorce. He doesn’t have children, and so now his life is really becoming more about the students that he deals with every day,” Meadows says of his character. “His relationships with these students have changed now. It’s not just teacher/student. It’s become like friends.”
Meadows says it’s been fun working with the young ensemble cast, but admits he feels a little out of place. “This is one of the first times I’ve been the oldest actor and the most unattractive actor on a set,” he says. “I’m officially, like, the ugliest person in the cast.”
