Premieres: September 23
Airs: Fridays, 9pm ET/PT
Network: FOX
Who Is In It? Kirk Acevedo, Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Seth Gabel
Where We Left Off: The move to Fridays mercifully wasn’t the disaster it might have been, which should let fans breathe easier. On the series, after figuring out that he and Walter were of the First People, Peter managed to tear holes in both Walter’s and Walternate’s universes that led to a room bridging both — a place where the two could begin the work of repairing the damage they’d collectively done to the world. And just as Peter was in the process of articulating this, he vanished completely.
What to Expect: Series creators Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman indicate that they have an endgame in mind for the series no matter how long they have to unfold their story. The issue of Peter Bishop’s (Joshua Jackson) fate, they acknowledge, is the “elephant in the room,” but they’ve promised satisfying answers. Says Wyman: “We all know Josh is in the show, so we’ve got to answer the what, where and how, and what will be the consequences of that. We like to put out the mysteries, answer them and then ask, ‘And then what?’”
New Faces: Leonard Nimoy, seen in the season finale as William Bell, returns for more episodes.
Where We Left Off: FBI agent Olivia (Anna Torv) traveled into a parallel universe, where she met Bell – oh, and she was inside the Twin Towers. And, Peter (Joshua Jackson) may be an alternate-universe version of himself, brought over to replace his own dead double.
What to Expect: More will be learned about the threat posed by the nontraditional terrorist cell Z.F.T. Olivia pursues information about her forgotten past. Expect more shocking reveals, more trips across the dimensional divide, more bizarre science. And if executive producer J.J. Abrams knows what’s good for him, he’ll bring back the cow.
New Faces: Amy Madigan
Where We Left Off: Olivia, in a desperate plea to persuade Peter to return to our dimension, declared her love for him — only to be left behind herself after the alternate version of herself (a.k.a. Bolivia) took her out and took her place.
What to Expect: The stars have said the goal this season is to present a nonprejudiced view of both dimensions, so viewers can see that each side has legitimate reasons for acting as they do. In any event, sounds like those freak-of-the-week episodes might be over and we’re heading straight ahead into heavy mythology mode. In casting news, Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams) will play Olivia’s mother.
