Who Is In It? Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, Lauren Velez, David Zayas, James Remar, C.S. Lee, Peter Weller, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Desmond Harrington, Jonny Lee Miller, Julia Stiles
Where We Left Off: Jordan Chase’s plan to finish off Lumen and Dexter didn’t quite pan out as he’d planned, especially since he ended up dead. But coupled with Dexter’s decision to spare Quinn, the payoff of Deb’s sparing Dexter and Lumen was more significant still.
What to Expect: Quinn will still be suspicious of Dex, and we’ll still be wondering if Debra knows that Dexter is the vigilante. We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) joins the cast for Season 6, playing a charismatic professor of religious studies, along with guest stars Colin Hanks and Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated Mos Def.
New Faces: John Lithgow, Keith Carradine (returning as FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy)
Where We Left Off: Miami police forensics detective Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) had managed to keep his serial killing activity secret after facing a serious challenge from an equally sly assistant district attorney.
What to Expect: In the series’ fourth season, Dexter will be facing a foe who has very much the same mind-set, since Lithgow’s character also has a dual life, keeping his own serial killer practices secret – and murdering in threes, giving him a reputation as “The Trinity Killer.” The ever-masterful Lithgow should have an absolute blast with the role, as suggested by his work in such movies as Raising Cain.
New Faces: Maria Doyle Kennedy, Peter Weller, Jonny Lee Miller, Julia Stiles
Where We Left Off: In the chilling finale of a season which earned 8 Emmy nominations, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) was just settling into married life and fatherhood when Trinity (John Lithgow) left him a widower.
What to Expect: With two older children and a baby to care for, will there be any time for Dexter to appease his Dark Passenger’s urges to hunt and kill? Perhaps the new nanny, played by Maria Doyle Kennedy (Henry VIII’s first wife on The Tudors), can lift some of his responsibilities on the home front, but after what he witnessed in last season’s shocking finale, it may be harder for our lovable serial killer to pick up his knife. Plus, there’s his guilt at knowing that he was not able to protect Rita and the fact that he is considered a suspect in her death. Also joining the cast are Peter Weller, Jonny Lee Miller and Julia Stiles. And Julie Benz also returns early in the season to help Dexter deal with unfamiliar emotions her murder raises in him.
