Where We Left Off: Having lost his mother to the Unsub when he was a child, hot-shot cop Spicer had been on his trail throughout the home-invasion killings that had plagued the area. But when the Unsub showed up in Spicer’s home, he made Spicer beg for his daughter’s life before shooting Spicer in the head and fleeing with his daughter, Ellie.
What To Expect: Season 6 will at some point see Hill Street Blues veteran Daniel J. Travanti make an appearance on the other side of the law, playing an aging notorious killer, “The Butcher” Mullens who tries to swim against the tide of his advancing Alzheimer’s and resurrect his destructive past.
But in the season premiere, “The Longest Night,” the BAU team closes in on the serial killer as he continues his murder spree throughout Los Angeles — with Spicer’s daughter as his hostage. Tim Curry returns as serial killer Billy Flynn, and Robert Davis is back as Detective Adam Kurzbard.
Where We Left Off: After yet another trying case, Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) was confronted by a masked gunman – with a gunshot heard as the screen went dark, strongly suggesting that the agent had been shot point-blank.
What to Expect: Unless Hotchner had amazingly quick reflexes, it’s a good bet the fifth-season opener will be centered on his colleagues’ search for his assailant. Considering the determination of the other BAU operatives when it isn’t one of their own who’s the victim, expect them to be even more dogged in seeking this felon … as a prelude to more cases involving criminals with bizarre motives and procedures.
