All-American Handyman

Airs: Sundays, 9pm

Network: HGTV

Featuring Mike Holmes, Scott McGillivray, Carmen De La Paz

Hosted By Molly Culver

You could call this show the “Handyman Olympics”. A group of twenty handymen (and handywomen, for that matter), will be competing against each other in challenges like shingling roofs, installing toilets, and building outdoor decks. The prize, a network deal and a $10,000 Sears shopping spree (Sears being the show sponsor), will be awarded to the most skilled handyman after being judeged by three HGTV personalities, including the infamous Mike Holmes. The four-episode show may be short and sweet, but the reality-style theme and competitive spirit make it anything but boring. Let the best handyman win!

WONDERFUL!!! My husband and I just love Mike Holmes. We would love to see more. My husband just got out of school (top of his class) and is trying to get his company off the ground. He is an Electriction and just loves it when Frank is on the job with Mike. He can do almost anything that comes with this kind of work.(Home repair) Is there any way to sign up for the show for next year? He has went to school altogether for 3years and has been out of work for 10years. This show is going to be soooo great!

My husband and I just relocated to FL to be closer to our children and soon to be granddaughter so we have had to start over and we are finding it to be much more difficult than we expected. My husband is very much like Mike Holmes and has many, many talents and a whole lot of common sense. He can do anything in a home. He has rebuilt several houses and done a lot of remodeling. He is a wonderful and very honest man and has many, many satisfied customers.
Just wondering how he can become a part of your show. He would make an awesome addition to your show.

This show is gonna be a blast to watch, not only a learning experience for all but a reality check for many. My husband is pretty knowledgeable in fixing and repairing many things, not only our home but helps out with friends and family’s boo-boo’s. I’m sure he could make a living from it, but to him its something that needs his skills and he goes for it.
I would love more information on how to sign him up for this show, he’s a perfectionist and won’t quit until the job is done.
    Thanks.

My husband can do anything around the house, remodel bathrooms, paint, plumbing, electrical…..you name it and he is the kindest person I know. He saw your advertisement for the show and wants to win it so he can finish remodeling our kitchen…we were getting ready to do that and then I lost my job so we had to cancel our plans….the chance to win would allow us to finish the job. How can I nominate him? My friends call him Saint Brian because he is always helping others.

My boyfriend is the best handyman there is and he would love to work alongside of Mike Holmes. We watch Mike Homes every time we can. Wayne built his house piece by piece 25 years ago. When I meet him, he helped me redo my whole basement. He will first take it all down if it is off by an inch. At first it made me really mad, because it took too long to get a project done. However, when it was done he looked at me and said “Now it is done and done correctly”. That is when I knew that he was able to do anything and do it right. The first time we saw Mike Holmes, I was blown away by his work and what he felt in his heart. He wants the job done and done right without short cuts and that is Wayne. If you ask Wayne to help you with a job, you can’t get mad if he tells you we have to start over. If you make a mistake, he will let you know and you will go back and redo the whole project or he will walk away. You should see his house and the things he does every day to always improve. It took us three days to redo the ceiling on the front of our house. If Mike Holmes is ever in Kentucky, please give Wayne a call, he will show Mike Holmes his twin. They are the in every way and it is very scary to watch Mike on TV and live with Wayne every day. I just wish he was on your handyman show. I think you would find the best if you saw Wayne in action. He is not the kind to sit back and watch you do something incorrectly, he will let you know. I guess that is why we like watching Mike Holmes so much. Again, if your show is every looking for the next handyman or if you are in the Louisville Kentucky area, please give him a call. He will not let you down. Thanks for Mike Holmes, I now understand Wayne so much better and now have a new found respect for all that he does on a daily basis. Thanks for the show and the experience of knowing that me and Mike Holmes’ family has something in common.

I know someone that would be perfect for your all American Handyman – his name is Scott and believe me he can do anything. His work is fantastic – his only fault is that he is a perfectionist and isn’t satisfied until it is perfect – he would be great on your show – how does one go about entering?

I assumed from the show title, “All-American Handyman” (not “North American Handyman” or “All-Canadian Handyman) that it was about Americans. Folks from the USA. Watching the show, it seems to be (and it is entertaining). But why have it hosted by 2 Canadians? What, we don’t have anyone down here qualified? We’re like handyman chopped liver? I like both of these guys but it just seems goofy. Imagine a show called “Canada’s Greatest Hockey Players” hosted by Wayne Gretsky.

We live in a small town in Kansas. We have one child; a six year old little girl who thinks her daddy hung the moon. My husband is definately a jack of all trades; I am pretty sure he can fix just about anything. He is the strongest man I have ever known. He has been in remission from Hodgekin’s Lymphoma for three years and he is right back up and going strong. He is up before daylight every morning and works anywhere from 10-12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. That doesn’t mean he does not take time for his family; he comes home every night just to sit down to dinner with his family then returns to work and is home in time to kiss his little girl goodnight. Not every job he does pays, he can’t say ‘no’ to someone in need; alot of the time he is doing charity work for a neighbor, fellow church member, or anyone that may be in need. Have you ever thought of doing a charity show? where some of the winnings go to a the American Cancer Society. Just a thought. Either way please give my husband a chance to show the World that Cancer doesn’t ALWAYS win. Thank you for your time.

How does one go about signing up for the next set of tryouts for HGTV’s All-American Handyman show?

I am a do-it-yourself person and quite handy. I have installed doors, windows, hardwood floors, sheetrock, wallpaper, done wiring and some plumbing.

I am a semi-retired white-color person. However, I really like projects, remodeling and helping others with projects when possible.

I think the show is great and would really like the opportunity to compete for a spot the next time there are tryouts.

Most of the jobs in this competition would require a contractor…NOT a handyman. In fact, in most states it would be ILLEGAL for a handyman to do them.

My ex has been a handyman for over 20 years. He is a 6’4′ Mimmesota guy (easy on the eyes!!) who lives to make and fix things. I tried to get him open his own business but I guess he is afraid since he has worked for the Univ of Florida for 20 years–Although we are not married and disagree about most things–he is a damn good handyman–can fix anything from plumbing, air conditioning, cars and house stuff==how do I get him on that show!!!

These are not tasks for handymen/women. It is illegal in California for a handyman or anyone without a contractor’s license to perform work for more than $500. Handymen take care of small electrical, plumbing, stucco repair work, etc. What are they doing having them design a kitchen, install windows, etc. Connecting a toilet, yes, but the rest – not appropriate. Let us see some real handyperson skills tested.

Love your show! Saw my first episode today! Can my husband be on it?! He is amazing! He is a mechanic by trade, but he is a handyman as a hobbiest. He has been a carpenter, woodworker, electrician, welder, framer, etc. He built a garage for his dad when he was 16 years old, concrete, heated, I am talking EVERYTHING! He built/framed houses in Australia, and built our kitchen and bathroom in two houses that we bought and renoed as well. The only problem I foresee is that I am American, but he is Canadian. Can he be on your show anyway? Our son is American and we’ve been married for 10 years, so can’t he be considered American? (I have no idea?) Are you doing a Canadian spinoff? Have I missed it? Isn’t Mike Holmes Canadian? Isn’t Scott M. Canadian? Isn’t HGTV Canadian? We love watching HGTV together and LOVE ALL OF MIKE AND SCOTT’S SHOWS! I would love to see my husband on your show! Its actually his Birthday today and I think this would be the greatest birthday present he could ever have! :)

Please let me know if there is anyway to make this work, Thanks! I will keep trying to find the application form. THANKS! – Sincerely, Sue and Owen

I know a perfect house for your all american handymen and women to work on! Owned by grandma & grandpa, then mom & day, then my fiance for 30 years, it has part of all of them and really needs some updating and repair. Nearing retirement Mike’s budget is very limited, but projects are endless. If you are looking for a house to work on, inside and out, this is it!
